One day after Apple released the developer preview of OS X Mountain Lion 10.8, Microsoft unveils the new logo of the Windows operating system.
Oh the timing!
Microsoft shows-off the new “minimalist” logo of the Windows operating system, the new Windows 8 branding sporting the blue color only. According to the Redmond-based tech giant, the new logo reflects the future of the operating system with its upcoming Windows 8 update which “is a complete reimagination of the Windows operating system.”
Microsoft unveiled the new logo via its official Windows blog site, saying that it is a windows and not a (Greece) flag, and it was inspired by the company’s mixture of “modern” and “classic.” Surprisingly, the new logo was posted online a day after the release of Apple’s Mountain Lion 10.8 operating system developer preview. Apple’s new operating system is, presumably, the biggest rival of the upcoming Windows operating system.
Windows 8′s rival, the Mountain Lion operating system or version 10.8, will incorporate some of the elements of the “iOS” to attract more buyers. Some of the iOS-like features of the new Apple OS are the notification center, messages, Reminders, the Game Center, and the iconic share button (plus the deep Twitter integration). Apparently, Apple wants a “halo effect” by making the Macs more iOS-y and telling the world that the new operating system was inspired by the iPad.
Meanwhile, Windows 8 is designed to work with laptops, tablet PCs and smartphones, and it is quite obvious that Windows wants to get rid of the “Windows Phone is losing in the smartphone market” statement by implementing a more unified ecosystem. It is also worth mentioning that Microsoft’s Windows MUST support mobile devices soon because the market is now shifting from desktop computers to tablet computers and smartphones based on the latest data available online.
Apple is expected to ship the new Mac OS X Mountain Lion this Summer, while Microsoft will reportedly introduce the first Windows 8 devices in Q3 or Q4.
