Rumors: Nokia EOS Windows Phone 8 to replace Lumia 920 and will snub Verizon Wireless again

Nokia is poised to change its mobile phone strategy this year to stay relevant amid growing Android market share and Apple’s next big shift to iOS 7. But how? With no popular apps to offer, how can Nokia lure more customers?

Well, I think we now have an answer now– Nokia will use its camera technology with patents all over it to stay competitive, and now, a new leak reveals that AT&T, again, will launch the 2013 flagship Windows Phone 8 of Nokia — the Nokia Lumia EOS.

According to a new Engadget article, the Nokia EOS Windows Phone device recently visited FCC and the unit contains AT&T-friendly bands. With no official word from AT&T and Nokia, all we can do now is speculate — but I guess it is safe to say that AT&T will bag the flagship Nokia exclusivity in the US.

Last year, Nokia launched the Lumia 920 exclusively on AT&T network followed by some crappy phones on other networks, and some Nokia Lumia 920 variants like the Lumia 928 on Verizon Wireless and the new Nokia Lumia 925 running on T-Mobile’s GSM networks.

Unlike other camera-phones out there, Nokia and Microsoft fans are excited because the EOS will ship with a 41-megapixel primary camera, so basically, it is like a Nokia 808 PureView phone running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8, in addition to design changes and other enhancements.

The Finland-based phone maker said it will focus on introducing new products and services this year to stay competitive, and it looks like the EOS phone is one of the devices under wraps. However, Nokia is still missing some points, like the lack of Verizon Wireless support for flagship launch. Last year, the Nokia Lumia 920 arguably failed because the phone is limited and only works on AT&T’s network.

Unlike Nokia, HTC and Samsung are conquering all networks in the US. Samsung is currently selling its Galaxy S4 on all carriers, while HTC bagged its latest customer, Verizon Wireless, and will start selling the HTC One soon.

Can Nokia retaliate with the EOS Windows Phone?
