Ahead of the long-rumored iPad 3, iPhone 5 rumors are cooling off. But here’s the catch, the iPad 3′s specs could also be the under-the-hood power of the 2012 iPhone.

Waiting for the iPhone 5? Well, this quarter is not the best season to read iPhone 5 rumors because apparently, the rumors are now facing towards the direction of the Apple iPad 3 due to the growing “credible” reports that Apple will introduce the new tablet computer next month.

The latest rumor surrounding the next iPhone has suggested the LTE connectivity feature, as well as the long-rumored 4-inch touchscreen that will reportedly offer the same “Retina” display with 326 or close ppi and lastly, the rumored A6 CPU with quad-core technology. Rumors are split regarding the phone’s possible release date, one rumor suggested a June release date following the iPhone 4, but another version leans in favor of the October release date related to the new iPhone 4S. Either way, the next Apple tablet computer is expected to out the processor of the iPhone 5, similar to the A5 chip drama last year that the iPad 2 introduced, followed by the iPhone 4S.

The iPad 3, according to the latest credible report, might not ship with quad-core CPU but it might introduce the Long-Term Evolution for the variants in the United States and other countries with mobile carriers that support LTE. The iPad 3 is also expected to ship with Retina display, and if true, the iPad 3 might ship with 326 or so pixels per inch-equipped touchscreen, compared to the iPad 2′s respectable 9.7-inch touchscreen with 132 pixels per inch. Finally, new iPad rumors also added that Siri, the voice command app feature of the iPhone 4S, is expected to join the iPad 3 club too — so it looks like the iPhone 5 might enjoy a more stable, and more advanced Siri later this year.

Apple is currently the biggest smartphone seller in the United States according to the latest data with the market share growth of 2.2 percent from Q3 to Q4 of 2011. Apple is also enjoying double-digit market share in other countries, but Android is still the smartphone operating system market share leader with more than 50 percent of the total market share, Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung Electronics, also posted market share growth largely due to popularity of the Galaxy S2 and other Android-based phones.

Speaking of Samsung, Apple’s iPhone 5 might face a new Galaxy phone rival later this year, the Galaxy S3, and rumors have suggested that the new Galaxy S3 will ship with the latest version of Android, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and could also come with HD Super AMOLED Plus screen technology that will compete against the Retina display.
