Apple's iOS versus Google's Android

Can Verizon’s iPhone 4 help Apple beat the ever growing Google Android community?

The third quarter data for smartphone OS market share is now available, and Comscore reveals Google’s mobile operating system Android is the fastest growing in United States with 6.5 points up compared to last quarter’s data.

Android now owns 23.5% of smartphones OS market share, compared to last quarter with only 17 points. Meanwhile, Apple inc’s iOS powering iPhone 3G & iPhone 4 has 24.6% smartphone OS share. The number 1 platform as of October 31, 2010 is Research in Motion’s with 35.8%, 3.5 points below the previous quarter’s share of 39.3 points.

Another OS losing the game is Microsoft’s Windows mobile OS with 9.7% share, 2.1 points down. Although iPhone 4′s OS is growing, it’s obviously slowing down and that’s because of the popularity of Google’s mobile OS, with the help of overwhelming media attention.

So, what’s next for Apple inc?

Aside from the rumors about iPhone 5 or fifth generation of Apple’s smartphones, there’s also reports about the Verizon iPhone 4, possibly the first iPhone outside AT&T.

Can these two new offers help Apple get the market share boost? Maybe.

But here’s another big twist for Apple, Google Android’s big update called “Gingerbread,” and rumors say it will sport the NFC (Near Field) technology, allowing smartphones to act as credit, or debit card.
