What’s this? More Android phones for $.01 each? And now with Verizon plan?

Early Christmas treat? Amazon Wireless is back with another deal of 1 cent worth of smartphones. After selling two Windows Phone 7 for 1 cent each last week, the Wireless market of the e-commerce site is now selling Android powered Motorola and HTC phones to the tune of… 1 cent per phone too!

But compared to last week’s penny-for-a-smartphone deal where buyers were tied up with AT&T, these new penny deals will also give you a contract with Verizon.

The said Motorola/HTC smartphones deal is valid until November 22. Available phones are HTC’s Droid Incredible, Motorola’s Droid 2, Pro or X all for just $0.01. AT&T’s Samsung Captivate with Android 2.1 OS is also available with the same price of a penny. Tight Verizon versus AT&T competition happening inside Amazon!

Selling penny smartphones too is another win-win situation for Verizon (and Amazon of course), because Verizon is allegedly set to sell their own fourth generation iPhone. Is it possible that Verizon is trying to catch up with AT&T after the “Windows Phone 7″ for a penny last week?

If you ask me, this is an iPhone 4 preparation because if you have a Verizon plan now, it’s easier to buy Verizon’s iPhone 4 later on.

But don’t expect to see penny iPhone 4 in Amazon in the near future because according to a report, Apple “generally doesn’t allow its devices to be sold for any much less than the sticker price.”
