SimCity 2013 Offline Appears, EA Offers Free Game
Patch allows offline SimCity 5 gaming, while EA offers free game as compensation for game’s launch date problems.
Article written by Kevin Go – Many people (including us) were dumbfounded by the fact that the latest installation to the SimCity franchise is only playable if you have an “always-on” internet connection, add to that the constant server problems that kicked us out of the game every now and then.
Now, for the benefit of all “patient” and “amazing” SimCity 5 mayors out there, Electronic Arts is kind enough to offer a game for all of us to download for free via its Origin portal.
The list includes all-time popular and classic games such as Battlefield 3, Bejeweled 3, Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Plants vs. Zombies and of course, the ever-so-loved SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition. It would have been great if they added Sims 3 on the list don’t you guys think?
“Our SimCity Mayors are incredibly important to the team at Maxis. We sincerely apologize for the difficulties at launch and hope to make it up to you with a free PC game download from Origin.” -EA Staff
Given the recent turn of events, looks like ‘always on’ gaming is the future guys, video game piracy is costing video game publishers [like Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard and Valve Corporation] billions of dollars annually and now we’re being force-fed with the consequences of our actions.
Speaking of the future, it’s not surprising to find out that some geniuses in the gaming community are finding ways for us to enjoy SimCity 5 even if you’re offline and the solution to that involves deleting just a few lines of code to keep you from getting kicked out of the server if it detects that you’re not connected to the internet.
There’s one caveat to this trick though, saving offline is still not possible but the modder dubbed as ‘Azzer’ did mention that there is a workaround for it which means it will soon be possible to play SimCity 5 even if you’re completely offline. Reviews for the offline SimCity says “it sucks.”
