Article by: Raphael Labuguen – The highly addictive strategy game is back, Sid Meier’s Civilization 5. It’s upcoming expansion pack promises “replayable” gaming with two victories getting the enhancement. 2K Games announces a new expansion, the Brave New World, an update that will offer new features for the Diplomacy and Cultural type victories.
According to the company’s official web page, Brave New World will introduce new “culture victory,” in addition to new policies and ideologies, world congress, International Trade Routes, new civilizations and their corresponding units, new wonders to build and two new scenarios.
2K Games revealed that the new expansion will introduce new ways to achieve cultural victory. New routes that will spread your Civ’s culture courtesy of new great artists, writers and musicians that can create new masterpieces. Interestingly, the Science wonder building “Great Library” currently available after discovering the technology “writing” will now offer culture points.
Brave New World will also introduce archeologists for the cultural victory. 2K Games says archeologists on the game can “investigate sites of ancient battles and city ruins for priceless cultural artifacts.” Achieving cultural victory on the current expansion, Gods and Kings is a bit harder than other types of victories based on my experience, so I’m really looking forward to this update.
The upcoming expansion will also introduce tweaks on policies, and similar to current game, your chosen policy will affect your relationship with other civs. For example, choosing Order will affect your civilization’s relationship with civ that has chosen autocracy or freedom.
Diplomacy is also taking an enhancement with the new expansion. Gods and Kings has added feature on relationship with city-states by spreading religion, but on Brave New World, Civs will now vote on critical issues, similar to Civilization 4′s United Nations. Ban Nuclear on Civilization 5? It is highly possible.
And finally, Civilization 5 will welcome 9 new civilizations with their respective unique units and ability in tow.
2K Games also announced new wonders that can give unique points and features that will help your virtual civilization’s campaign to dominate the world. The new wonders are “Parthenon, Broadway, the Globe Theater, and the Uffizi,” their respective features are yet to be revealed but it is safe to say that Globe Theater and Broadway are cultural buildings and Parthenon is for acquiring more faith points for your Great Prophet and other religious units.
Steam is expected to launch the new game for PC, but there’s no official announcement yet for Mac OS X cross-platform support. Source: 2K games.
