Google Nexus 4 Users To Benefit From Qualcomm’s New App

LG Nexus 4 owners rejoice, Qualcomm introduces an app that will improve the battery life of your Google handsets (and other Qualcomm-powered smartphones).

To those of you who are encountering issues with the Nexus 4 battery longevity (while on standby), why not give Qualcomm’s new battery-saving app a try? The biggest mobile data eaters in a smartphone are often the ones we use the most, social networking apps such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. constantly pull-in data from the cloud without users being aware of it, eating away precious battery life s a result.

google-nexus-4-qualcommThis is not exclusive to the LG Nexus 4 of course, if you happen to own smartphones that pack Snapdragon chips, you should definitely download the BatteryGuru app.

The BatteryGuru works by ‘learning’ the way you use your smartphone, gathering details on how frequent you use certain apps and disabling syncing of other apps you rarely use — setting them to sync only when being accessed/used. It also identifies your location and knows when and where to turn the WiFi on/off seamlessly in the background, saving you even more battery by disabling 3G/4G data and shifting to power friendly-er WiFi.

So far, comments from a ton of users have been pretty positive, do remember that you have to let the app settle for two to three days in order for it to get its job done correctly, if you’re countering problems with some apps not updating properly, there’s a white list where you can override the app’s syncing policies. It is still in Beta stage so don’t expect things to run perfectly right away.

It’s unclear if the app is able to control the processor’s core clock or other power-related components but seems like it’s designed to work solely on data usage and wireless radios.

We’ve just started using the app a couple of hours ago both on a pair of Nexus 4 with Android 4.2.2 and an HTC One X running Android 4.1.1 so the trio of apps are still on ‘learning mode’, we’ll post a future article to let you guys know if it worked for us or not.
