Ahead of the rumored Samsung Galaxy S4 unveiling this quarter — Samsung Galaxy S3 receives a more advanced version of Android via leak, the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1.
The TouchWiz-laden Android 4.2.1 firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300XXUFMB3) has just found its way on the internet, it’s based on the build number JOP40D and includes a host of features that naturally comes with Google’s Jelly Bean series such as lockscreen widgets, Daydream, improved ‘actionable’ notifications among many others. Samsung has purportedly added an ‘improved’ ripple effect on lockscreen and tons of additions to the notification toggles as well.
Proceed with caution when flashing though, here’s a warning from the good folks over at Sammobile who have repackaged the update themselves for the betterment of fellow Galaxy S3 ‘flashers’:
“This firmware will increase your binary counter, if you don’t know what this means then don’t flash this firmware. This Firmware will also change your device status to Modified. This firmware doesn’t contain any Modem so the Modem you are using before flashing this firmware will remain. This is a PRE-RELEASE version so not official from KIES. As this is a PRE-RELEASE firmware some minor bugs are to expect.” [...] “We have FULLY TESTED this firmware and this firmware works perfectly as any other official firmware.”
After doing some digging, we’ve discovered that quite a handful of Galaxy S3 owners have already taken the I9300XXUFMB3 for a test drive, most users mentioned that the firmware isn’t fit as a ‘daily driver’ due to the numerous bugs they’ve encountered, issues range from battery drains to problems with the messaging app — naturally, this software package is still undergoing development so those issues are yet to be ironed out.
The final version of the Android 4.2.1 update for the Galaxy S3 won’t be rolling out until its successor, the Galaxy S4, gets debuted due to obvious reasons. It’s safe to speculate that the Galaxy S4 is likely to ship internationally with the Android 4.2.1 OS.
Better head on over to the source link to find out how to download and flash the I9300XXUFMB3 firmware on your beloved Samsung Galaxy S3
