BlackBerry 10 powered Dev Alpha C handset revealed

BlackBerry is obviously not letting time go to waste, its efforts on populating the BlackBerry World with BlackBerry 10-optimized apps is becoming more and more apparent with the unveiling of its Dev Apha C program.

Feb 05, 2013, 11:15 A.M., TUESDAY. Article by: Kevin Go – The developer-exclusive handset pictured above was revealed during the BlackBerry Jam event held at the RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The Dev Alpha C’s purpose is to let developers create applications for BlackBerry 10 devices equipped with the company’s iconic full QWERTY keyboard.

BlackBerry has also introduced the WebWorks software development kit which will enable apps to receive inputs from QWERTY BlackBerry handsets [like the Q10] as if the responses came from a virtual keyboard — the one found on the full-touch BlackBerry Z10.

Interestingly, BlackBerry did mention on its blog that the version of the BlackBerry 10 operating system ticking happily inside the Q10 uses “true black” in some of the platform’s user interface elements which will further increase the Q10′s AMOLED display’s power efficiency since the pixels are literally turned of — no wonder tech bloggers noticed the rich blacks on the Q10′s display [right away] when the test units were revealed to the public shortly after BlackBerry’s big launch back in January.

All these juicy bits will help make the BlackBerry 10 platform — along with the Q10 — a more ‘habitable’ platform in the near future, hopefully since a lot of iOS and Android users are still having second thoughts about making the ‘big move’ to BlackBerry 10 since they’ve already invested a lot of money on the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store, this is also the same dilemma consumers dealt with when Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 and 8 platforms entered the smartphone market.

Only time will tell how things will turn out for BlackBerry, hopefully the Canadian smartphone firm will respond to the complaints of numerous reviewers [who have already test driven the Z10 and the BlackBerry 10 OS] right away before it’s too late. Via Engadget.
