Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update for Verizon arrives

December 15, 2012, 1:17 P.M., Saturday, New York local time — The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 is the latest variant to receive the Android Jelly Bean software update.

Finally after months of waiting, Verizon Wireless has finally decided to unleash the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-laden firmware for its version of the Samsung Galaxy S3.

We’ve just received an exciting news, customers of Big Red have now started receiving the Over-the-Air firmware upgrade as expected, the software package will let them finally get a taste of what the first iteration of Google’s Android Jellybean has to offer.

The updated TouchWiz user interface now comes with the new Multi-view window feature that’ll enable users to manage several actively running apps open at the same time in the same way they can when using a desktop computer, there’s also the new ‘page buddy’ function a customizable menu that appears in certain scenarios like plugging in your headphones or docking your Galaxy S3, similar to Sony’s Smart Connect.

The notification panel can be customized as well such as changing notification toggles, etc., users can also now disable the brightness adjustment slider found in the notification area.

We really dig the SmartRotation feature which orientates the display depending on the position of the user’s eyes by using the phone’s front-facing camera as opposed to relying solely on the accelerometer, the concept pretty much works the same way SmartStay does. The Gallery app on the Galaxy S3 is also now similar to that of the Galaxy Note 2′s, and the camera app now has the Paper Artist mode that can let users take pictures and add cool effects to certain part of the image with just a tap on the screen.

Let’s not forget that the operating system ticking happily under the TouchWiz user interface is the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which means Verizon Galaxy S3 owners will surely enjoy a more stable and smoother Android experience thanks to the under-the-hood tweaks done by Google, the UI animations and transitions will also be kept ‘buttery smooth’ thanks to the full GPU acceleration which caps animations at a whopping 60 frames per second to eliminate dreadful lags.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 of Verizon Wireless sports boasts a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display with a 720×1280 resolution, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM, a primary 8-megapixel camera and a front-facing HD video camera.

If you’re wondering why you haven’t received a firmware update notification yet, try going to Applications -> Settings -> About Phone -> System updates -> Check for updates, it’ll take about 10 to 15 minutes to update your device, including the download time (depending on your area), might as well buy some Jelly Beans to snack on while waiting for your phone to finish.
