September 27, 2012, 11:00 A.M. New York local time — To sell more LEGITIMATE ads, Facebook starts deleting fake profiles, many fan pages lose “fans.”

In an effort to sell more legitimate advertisement page views, the largest social networking site in the world, began deleting thousands of fake profiles or accounts, apart from clearing fake likes from its network. Reports say fan pages of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and others have seen “fans drop” or the number of likes of their pages.

The exact number of deleted profiles are still not available, but many customers have reported deletion of their “game accounts” and unsurprisingly, friends for the past 24 hours.

Facebook is currently facing its biggest challenge to date, selling more ads and giving investors the reason to invest — growth.

Apart from deleting fake profiles, Facebook is also expanding the reach, and improving its mobile applications to lure more customers. According to analysts, more Facebook users are accessing the site by using their mobile devices, and it is highly possible that Facebook will add more ads on its mobile apps, like Facebook for Android and Facebook for iPad, to generate more revenue.
