Mini iPad, iPad 3 to rival the Amazon Kindle Fire?

Article by: Carlo Raphael Diokno.

New reports say Apple is developing a mini iPad that will challenge Amazon’s Android-based 7-inch tablet.

Analysts say the Amazon Kindle Fire is set to grab the 2nd spot in the tablet market race this quarter largely due to Kindle Fire’s tag price of just $199 challenging the iPad’s $499 (for the 16GB WiFi only model), plus the fact that Amazon’s ecosystem is very healthy. Amazon has confirmed this week that the company is currently selling 1 million Kindle Fires per week. Quite impressive.

Well, Apple is reportedly set to retail-iate.

A new report is posted on Friday, claiming that Apple is set to stop the smaller tablet from grabbing more market share. According to a report posted by Digitimes, a trusted source when it comes to supply chains and related information, the Cupertino, California-based company is building a smaller, and likely more affordable version of the iPad.

iPad 3 and Mini iPad rumors

So, where’s the long-rumored iPad 3? Well, the publication is claiming that the iPad 3 will arrive in Q1 of 2012, while the Mini iPad could hit the store shelves in Q4 of next year.

Let’s talk about the “smaller” iPad. The Taiwan-based website is suggesting that the Mini Apple tablet will feature a 7.85-inch screen, slightly larger than the 7-inch Kindle Fire, adding that LG and AU Optronics are set to supply the LCD of the smaller tablet computer.

Two weeks ago, an analyst was quoted as saying that the iPad 3 with better display and new design might debut in February based on Apple’s supply chain.
