Sprint iPhone 5 release date in October says Best Buy? [Rumors]

US retail chain also expecting the iPhone 5, the rumored new smartphone from Apple inc.

Summary: A new leak claims electronics retail store chain Best Buy, and its Best Buy Mobile is also waiting for the iPhone 5. Leaked document shows the iPhone 5 may hit stores in October, first week (October 1 to 7th), and the much-anticipated preorder could start this month.

One of the biggest leaks (if legit) about the iPhone 5 so far, is courtesy of BGR. The site posted on Sunday that Apple could start selling the iPhone 5 in US on Week 1 of October, based on the BBYM or Best Buy Mobile document confirming that the retail store is also anticipating iPhone 5 for Sprint Nextel, the third wireless carrier in United States. Apparently, the Sprint iPhone 4 and 5 rumor first appeared online last month courtesy of Wall Street Journal’s unnamed insiders.

According to the document, the iPhone 5 could get an “October week 1 launch,” and pre-orders for the rumored iPhone could start this month with a bold suggestion that iPhone 5 pre-orders will start this week. However, the Best Buy document includes a disclaimer saying that the “Apple product introduction/launch dates” was “subject to change.”

Sprint iPhone 5 rumorsMeanwhile, This is My Next (run by former Engadget writers) has added its weight in the Sprint iPhone rumor on Sunday after posting a leaked document from Best Buy (too), revealing that a Best Buy branch is scheduled to have a mysterious “Apple fixture” installment on October 21st, and will be initiated by the branch manager. The site is suggesting that the 6AM schedule, which is an hour ahead of the usual 7AM inventory of every Best Buy stores is out of ordinary. The report goes on saying that Best Buy Mobile managers were informed that on October 10th, a meeting with a discussion of an “upcoming BIG release dates” is scheduled.

No official words yet from Best Buy if the following reports are credible, so we should take them with a grain of salt.

If we’re going to count the number of rumors coming from legitimate news agencies and websites, it looks like October is really the sweet spot for the iPhone 5 release date, and additional rumors coming from sites like Wall Street Journal, and the latest from BGR further suggest that Sprint may bite the Apple Pie this year by launching its own iPhone 4 and iPhone 5.

Raphael Labuguen, one of our writers, is suggesting that the possible inclusion of Sprint in the Apple iOS market is a bold move against Google Android, especially in the United States, arguably the biggest smartphone market today dominated by Android devices.

It is also worth mentioning that Android ecosystem’s activities suggest that the operating system is ready to fight back. In fact, multiple rumors say that Google is expected to launch a new Nexus phone before Thanksgiving. Samsung and Motorola are also expected to attack the market with devices like the Droid Bionic, the rumored Droid HD, and Samsung’s new devices like the Galaxy S II US variants and the new newsmaker Samsung Galaxy Note packed with 5.3-inch HD AMOLED screen.
