Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE not yet a Motorola Droid Bionic rival
Samsung Mobile is expected to unveil the LTE version of the Galaxy S II, but no signs yet of US launch.
Summary: Verizon Wireless is the only (among the big four) carrier in US that will not offer the Samsung Galaxy S II, but some say the official LTE Samsung Galaxy S II could be the “missing link.” The Long Term Evolution-equipped version of the popular Android phone will join the “official” list in September.
It’s almost September, and Samsung Mobile will be invading the tech websites with multiple smartphone announcements. Following the US Galaxy S II unveiling, the Korean-based smartphone company is also expected to introduce the Long Term Evolution-equipped Samsung Galaxy S II, which could be the company’s response to upcoming devices that will use Verizon and AT&T’s LTE signals.
Apparently, Verizon Wireless will not offer the Samsung Galaxy S II because according to rumors, the carrier’s strategy is to grow its Long Term Evolution lineup, with BGR adding that Verizon will offer a device called “Droid Prime” instead of the Galaxy S II because it is more competitive.
The LTE-compatible Samsung Galaxy S II is not just “theoretically” faster in the data consumption department, but also bigger and faster in the UI and screen display categories because the phone is equipped with theoretically faster 1.5GHz dual core processor with the 3D graphic performance for better gaming and other applications execution, plus, the Galaxy S II LTE is also sporting the bigger 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen.
The US variant that will run under the banner of Sprint Nextel, the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, is almost the LTE Galaxy S II version, less the LTE (obviously), because the device is sporting bigger screen of 4.52-inch compared to the conventional Galaxy S II that will hit the AT&T stores sporting the usual 4.3-inch. And instead of Long Term Evolution, Sprint’s Galaxy S II includes WiMax as its “4G” asset.
Verizon Wireless is ready to compete next month (September) in the high-end Android market without the Galaxy S II. Instead of offering Samsung’s most popular phone to date, the biggest carrier in the US will offer the Droid Bionic, the carrier’s first dual-core LTE Android smartphone manufactured by Motorola Mobility. Verizon is now running multiple advertisements and campaigns to promote the Droid Bionic.
If Verizon will not offer the Galaxy S II LTE, it is highly possible that AT&T will, aside from the rumored HTC Holiday, the Taiwan-based company’s rumored first AT&T LTE phone leaked last week. AT&T is also scheduled to sell its first LTE tablet next month, the HTC Jetstream.
