iPhone 5 release date, rumors: No 4-inch, Sprint Nextel joining

iPhone 5 release date rumors, speculation presentation. Iphone in a boxiPhone 5 rumors galore: Release date still October. Plus, new report is suggesting that the iPhone 5 will not sport a lot of “upgrades.”

Summary: A new report from Taiwan is claiming that the iPhone 5 might not be much different from the current iPhone, or the iPhone 4 with 5-megapixel camera, single-core processor and sporting 3.5-inch screen.

If this new rumor is true, then there is a huge possibility that Android will continue its lead in the smartphone market, leaving companies like Nokia and Windows Phone struggling to get their much-needed growth.

According to a new report posted by DigiTimes, one of the websites that must be considered when it comes to touchscreen devices rumors and speculations, the iPhone 5 will sport screen size smaller than 4-inch, suggesting that Apple will not follow the strategies of other smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, HTC and Motorola that have devices with larger than 4-inch capacitive touch screen.

The new report also dismissed all the rumors claiming that the iPhone 5 will include dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, etc, labeling these as “market’s expectations.” The website also added: “The iPhone 5 will adopt a 3.5- to 3.7-inch panel with a design to allow the bezel of the panel to become thinner and make the screen look larger.”

Apple is still the most popular smartphone maker. In fact, the Cupertino, California-based company has shipped over 20.3 million iPhones claiming the first spot in the smartphone market share Q2 of 2011. Apple’s competitor, Samsung Mobile has shipped over 19 million smartphones, and leaving Nokia losing more market share with only 16.7 million handsets shipped.

Obviously, Apple captured the top spot in Q2 without introducing a new hardware, indirectly supporting Digitimes’ claim that Apple will not introduce a “super brand new” device this year, and just a modified iPhone 4 that may still get more market share, knowing that Sprint is allegedly joining the iPhone family this year.

So as of today, the rumors are still claiming that the iPhone 5 will arrive in October, will be offered by Sprint Nextel too, and will sport slight specs upgrade. All these are still considered as rumors, and must be taken with a grain of salt.
