Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9930, Torch 9850 price drop ahead of release date
Walmart to sell Sprint Nextel Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 cheaper than suggested retail price.
Summary: Research in Motion’s BlackBerry 7 powered smartphones, the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and the BlackBerry Torch 9850 are getting an early price drop courtesy of Walmart.
Two BlackBerry devices, the Bold 9930 and the Torch 9850 are expected to get a price drop ahead of the phones’ release date. Both the Bold 9930 and the Torch 9850 are pre-installed with the latest operating system from Research in Motion, and Walmart’s early price drop suggests that the Canadian-based company could attract more customers.
Retail giant Walmart is now accepting pre-orders for Sprint Nextel variant of the Bold 9930 starting at an attractive price of just $199.99, the Bold 9930 is RIM’s latest flagship device, which is the CDMA version of T-Mobile USA’s Bold 9900, equipped with a touchscreen, hardware-accelerated user interface courtesy of OS 7, 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, 8GB of built-in storage, and a large ‘mono-colored’ keyboard.
Walmart is also taking pre-orders for the even cheaper Blackberry Torch 9850 starting at $99.99, which is $50 less expensive than the price tag that Sprint will offer, the full-touch device from RIM is the second OS 7 bearing phone to receive a price cut through Walmart, as well as touted to take the throne of the Blackberry Storm.
The keyboard-less device’s front fascia largely resembles a Samsung-built Android device with only 5 hardware buttons situated under the large (chemically-strengthened plastic) 3.7″ touchscreen, equipped with the same 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel rear camera with autofocus (as opposed to the 9900/9930′s fixed-focus camera) and 4GB of onboard user memory.
