BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 more expensive than HTC Sensation 4G? [Rumor]
T-Mobile USA to offer BlackBerry Bold 9900 for $300? More expensive than dual-core Android smartphones?
Is Research in Motion into the Apple-esque style of putting a tag price?
A new leak posted by TmoNews is claiming that T-Mobile USA could offer the new BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 under $300, but that is not contract free — and will include a ball and chain 2 year contract agreement.
According to the document, the new BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900, which is the GSM version of Sprint and Verizon’s Bold Touch 9930 will be priced $599.99 off-contract, while the price tag for the Bold 9900 with 2 year-contract is $299.99, and that’s only after a mail-in rebate.
Apparently, the price that was listed for the Bold 9900 is a bit expensive (if the document is legitimate), especially if we’re going to compare it to other more powerful smartphones and obviously more popular than BlackBerry devices like T-Mobile’s Android HTC Sensation 4G and T-Mobile-branded G2x manufactured by LG.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is one of the few new BlackBerry devices that are scheduled to arrive in US carriers this year, and these smartphones are expected to compete against the already-popular, yet still a rumor iPhone 5, and other Android devices like Verizon’s Droid Bionic with Long Term Evolution and the Samsung Galaxy S2 with multiple versions. Can Research in Motion secure a respectable sales figure with that price tag?
Under the hood, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is powered by 1.2 GHz processor, and will include the latest BlackBerry 7 operating system out of the box. It can also shoot HD videos and photos with a 5 megapixel back camera but it doesn’t support video calling because the phone lacks a front-facing camera. According to Research in Motion, the new 9900 smartphone is their soon to be thinnest in the market.
So, are you willing to burn $300 or $600 for a BlackBerry Bold 9900? Let’s hope this price leak is inaccurate.
