HTC Thunderbolt release date delay not related to Verizon iPhone

HTC Thunderbolt might not get a February release date.

A source claims iPhone 4 is not the reason behind HTC Thunderbolt's release date delay.

A source claims iPhone 4 is not the reason behind HTC Thunderbolt's release date delay.

HTC Thunderbolt is actually one of the Android devices that have a lot of release date rumors. The first one was courtesy of AOL’s Engadget via Phone Arena, claiming that it will get a Valentines Day début. Apparently, no HTC Thunderbolt was seen during the chocolatey day.

Then, dozens of notes followed suit that pointed to release “dates” ranging from February 17 to February 24th. What’s with HTC Thunderbolt that Verizon is “over-delaying” it?

Apparently, Verizon is promoting the HTC Thunderbolt as its first-ever 4G/LTE capable device, and LTE is the carrier’s priority for this year, so expect a “first or second week of March” release date.

According to source who requested anonymity, Verizon “wants Thunderbolt (aka LTE Phone) to be close to perfection at launch,” because VZW wants to deliver the “best first impression” with its LTE/4G. He also added that the delay is not “totally related to iPhone 4,” and one of the reasons behind the first delay of the HTC Thunderbolt is “Skype.”

The source declined to comment on whether or not HTC Thunderbolt will be pre-populated with Skype video call application plug-in at launch.

Thanks to “tippy” the tipster.
