Samsung Galaxy S2 (S II) hits 10 million

After five months, Samsung has sold 10 million Galaxy S II or S2 smartphones worldwide.

The Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is just two weeks old here in United States, but it’s already five months old in other markets. Unsurprisingly, the phone’s success continues, beating other Android devices and Samsung’s own record.

In a press release, Samsung confirmed that they have sold 10 million Samsung Galaxy S2 handsets worldwide, blowing past their previous smartphone record made by the original Galaxy S. The press statement revealed that the 10 million mark was reached in just five months, doubled in less just two months.

Samsung Galaxy S II or S2The last sales figure provided by Samsung was in July when the Samsung Galaxy S II reached the 5 million sales mark in less than three months, or exactly 55 days.

It is worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy S II with model number GT-I9100, or the global version with the physical home button is the only model counted by Samsung, so it is quite obvious that the Sprint Nextel version is not yet included in the sales record.

Speaking of Sprint Nextel, Samsung is also expected to sell two other Samsung Galaxy S II variants in United States, AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S II that will hit store shelves on October 2,  and T-Mobile’ Samsung Galaxy S II X similar to Telus that will use a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor instead of Samsung’s original 1.2GHz Exynos ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor.

Samsung is now preparing for the launch of new devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note and the new Galaxy Tabs. According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy Note, packed with 1.4GHz dual-core processor and Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 will hit stores this year, most likely before the holiday shopping weeks. Some third-party stores are already offering pre-orders for the Galaxy Note.

The original Samsung Galaxy S2 or S II with the model number GT-I9100 is powered by 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos Processor, Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 out of the box with the new TouchWiz custom user interface, an 8 megapixel primary camera that can shoot up to 1080p video, a front-facing 2 megapixel camera for video chat, a full 1GB of RAM and a thin profile, 8.49mm on its thinnest point.
