iPhone 5 and AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2: A close release date
AT&T confirmed that Samsung’s popular device arriving in October 2nd, two days before the rumored iPhone 5 announcement.
AT&T, Apple’s original wireless carrier partner in United States surprises customers after revealing that the Samsung Galaxy S2 will not arrive this month. In a Tweet posted on Wednesday, AT&T announced that the Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 will hit stores on October 2nd, and will sport the tag price of $199.99 with a two-year contract, and requires a smartphone data plan.
Apparently, AT&T’s pricing (as well as Sprint’s, with its Epic 4G Touch) sports the same as the iPhone 4 (16GB), the price tag that the next iPhone could also use, the 16GB iPhone 5.
Speaking of the iPhone 5, there was a rumor posted on Wednesday that Apple will introduce the iPhone 5 on October 4, and Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook will announce the release date of the iPhone 5 in the event.
Apple’s rumored iPhone 5, is Samsung’s biggest “problem” now. In fact, a Senior Executive of the South Korea-based company revealed that his company is planning to file a request to block the sale of the iPhone 5 in South Korea. The anonymous Samsung executive reportedly told the Korea Times that the company will try to “ban” the iPhone 5 by using the patents — well, in lawsuits obviously.
The Samsung Electronic exec said, ”Just after the arrival of the iPhone 5 here, Samsung plans to take Apple to court here for its violation of Samsung’s wireless technology related patents.”
Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is the Korean company’s biggest selling smartphone to date. The last known figure provided by the company revealed that 5 million Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones were sold in less than 85 days. The said numbers do not include the United States of America market yet, and also the sales number for the month of August.
Can the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 outsell the AT&T iPhone 5? Given the possibly “earlier” release date, can Samsung convince more iPhone customers to “go Android.”?
AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is the “purist” among the US variants with the original 4.-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with the resolution of 480 x 800, 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 Exynos processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8-megapixel primary camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android Gingerbread out of the box.
Meanwhile, the rumor mill still suggests that the iPhone 5 is also a dual-core smartphone with an 8-megapixel primary camera and iOS 5 out of the box.
