Samsung roundup: Galaxy S2 Sprint, Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany
A good, and a bad week for Samsung Mobile.
Multiple web sources have reported that Samsung’s first Honeycomb tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 received its second “ban” tag from the Germany court.
According to Bloomberg, a German court upheld its preliminary ruling related to the Android Honeycomb-based tablet on Friday, banning the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany, and allowing Apple to compete in the German tablet market without its biggest tablet PC rival, which is also the California-based company’s biggest rival in the smartphone market today.
Apple, in its lawsuits filed in many countries outside USA, is claiming that Samsung copied the design and the look and feel of the iPad. The lawsuit in Germany also forced Samsung to pull the new Galaxy Tab 7.7 out of the IFA CES in Berlin last week. New products like the Galaxy S II LTE and the new Samsung Galaxy Note were not affected by the Apple lawsuit.
Speaking of Galaxy S II, Sprint’s version surprisingly received a big price drop. According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch of Sprint Nextel, which is scheduled to arrive on September 16, is $99.99 only if bought via Walmart, a retail chain in United States. The SRP of the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch if bought with 2 year-contract is $199.99, so the price tag that Walmart is implementing is exactly $100 less-expensive and could attract more customers to buy the new Galaxy S II variant with LED notification light and larger 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen.
Other carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T are also expected to retail the Galaxy S II this Fall. The new Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone is expected to rival the rumored new smartphone from Apple, the Apple iPhone 5. According to rumors, the iPhone 5 will get a mid-October launch date, with the addition of Sprint as the latest US wireless carrier to offer the popular smartphone brand.
