iPhone 5 release date with Sprint rumors continue
Sprint Wireless joining the iPhone market claims new report.
A new report posted by Bloomberg on Friday re-confirms rumor that the iPhone 5 will arrive in Sprint Nextel alongside Apple’s original partners, Verizon Wireless and AT&T. Furthermore, the report adds credence to rumors that Apple will launch the iPhone 5 next month.
According to the note, Sprint Nextel will compete in the smartphone market by offering the iPhone 5, and the third largest wireless carrier in the United States is poised to launch new unlimited data service plans to distinguish itself from Verizon and AT&T. The site claims that all the information written came from “people familiar with the matter.” Aside from confirming the iPhone 5 for Sprint, the report also said that the new Apple smartphone will get a mid-October release date.
If true, then AT&T and Verizon Wireless could also launch their own “unlimited” iPhone 5 plans to compete, although it is still early to speculate knowing that the device is still considered as a big “rumor” and will only get an official tag only on Apple’s final announcement. Additional rumors say Apple will officially announce the iPhone 5 this month, and will also include the announcement related to pricing, and release dates for other markets like Asia and Europe including the United Kingdom.
Wall Street Journal started the iPhone 5 Sprint rumor last month, claiming that the current version of the iPhone, which is the iPhone 4, will also land in Sprint. The iPhone 4 Sprint variant is not yet available, so it looks like the older phone will be launched by Sprint alongside the iPhone 5.
Sprint is getting a lot of “smartphone love,” in fact, the Now Network is also the wireless carrier that will get the earliest release date for the Samsung Galaxy S II, or Galaxy S2 — one of the most popular Android smartphones to date based on sales and reviews. Sprint rebranded the Galaxy S2 by adding the “Epic 4G” branding, which is brand name of the carrier’s first Galaxy phone released last year.
Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy S II is considered as one of the biggest rivals of the iPhone 5 when it comes to specs, and overall performance. Rumors say the iPhone 5 will include dual-core processor, 8-megapixel forward facing camera, better dedicated RAM and will come pre-installed with the stable iOS 5 build, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. The Samsung Galaxy S II sports the same under the hood power, but with the popular 1.2GHz Exynos processor, and the latest build of Google Android operating system.
Sprint is expected to launch the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch on September 16th with price tags ranging from $149.99 (via third-party retailers) to $199.99 bundled with the carrier’s 2-year contract agreement.
