iPad 3 release date: Cheapest iPad 2 to join the event?
An 8GB iPad 2 tipped ahead of the expected iPad 3 release date this month.
More rumors float online ahead of the scheduled iPad 3 event in California this week. Aside from the specs of the iPad 3 (Retina, enhanced dual-core, LTE), there’s a new rumor claiming that the iPad event on March 7 will also introduce a new breed of the “older” but still respectable iPad 2.
According to Digitimes, sources from Asia have confirmed the availability of the 8GB iPad 2 this quarter, or for starters, the 8GB iPad 2 (if it is true) will become the “entry-level” iPad sporting a more affordable than $499 price tag. Apparently, Apple introduced the 8GB iPhone 4 last year so it looks like the 8GB iPad 2 is “near reality” but still considered a rumor as nobody from Apple has confirmed it yet.
Let’s say the 8GB iPad 2 is true — then the iPad 3 could be the “most expensive” Apple tablet yet while the new iPad 2 variant will occupy the “cheapest” department.
The iPad 2 is powered by a dual-core CPU, sports a 9.7-inch screen, compatible with 3G (Micro SIM card) or WiFi (depending on the model), and includes two cameras and the bottom line — the iPad 2 is still a usable device even after the iPad 3 unveiling.
Some tech sites think the 8GB iPad 2, again if the rumor is accurate, is the device that will compete against inexpensive Android tablets including the rumored Nexus tablet by Google which is reportedly set to debut next quarter.
Just a quick background for you to see the big picture: Multiple research firms say the demand for tablet computers is still on its “hot” degree, in fact, data collected suggested that tablet computers are “eating” the PCs and laptop’s market share.
